Transliteration: thog rgod
<noun> "Powerful lightning", "bolts of lightning", "strong electrical storm". Some translators have called this "wild lightning" but that is not the meaning. In Tibetan, the sense is "very strong lightning" e.g., [TC] glosses as ཐོག་དྲག་པོ་ "strong lightning". The term also does not refer to whether there is a lot of lightning or not; it can refer to a single flash of lightning or many. It has the sense in Tibetan of the strongest flash of lightning and has the same meaning as the English "bolt(s) of lightning", "powerful strike(s) of lightning". In the case where a storm of lightning is being discussed it has the sense of "strong electrical storm".Tibetans consider that meteoric iron comes in conjunction with ཐོག་རྒོད་ bolts of lightning. They consider that, after bolts of lightning have occurred, digging in the ground will reveal meteoric iron in various shapes such as phurpa and so on. Strong lightning of the sort that brings meteoric iron is thus called གནམ་ལྕགས་ཀྱི་ཐོག་རྒོད་ "meteoric iron (type of) bolts of lightning" q.v.
