<noun> 1) "Pigeon-holes". The name for a type of bookshelf that was common in Tibet. It consists of a series of pigeon holes made to the size of the cross-section of Tibetan texts. The texts would be put in lengthwise, one to a pigeon-hole. When viewed, it has the appearance of a latticework, with empty spaces, hence the name. 2) The name for the individual "cells" of a matrix or "eyes" of a lattice or "hole" e.g., in a spider's web.
