Transliteration: padma ge sar
<phrase> 1) The name of a particular species of tree that is tall and has bright red flowers. The author has positively identified it with the help of Tibetan doctors as the tree bombax ceiba. The name is also used to mean the flower of the tree. Tibetan medicine lists three kinds of Gesar plant, including this one. 2) Abbrev. of པདྨའི་གེ་སར་ which refers to the pistil portion of a padma lotus flower.Note: in the famous ཚིག་བདུན་གསོལ་འདེབས་ Seven Line Supplication that invokes Padmasaṃbhava, the second line begins with པདྨ་གེ་སར་སྡོང་པོ་ལ་. This has often been translated as "being on the pistil / pollen bed of a magnificent lotus" because one meaning of གེ་སར་ is the pistil section of a flower. However, that is not correct. The oral tradition of explanation clearly states that it does not mean that he is seated on a Padma Gesar tree nor that he is seated on the pollen bed of a lotus. It explains that it means that he is seated on the freshly blossomed lotus.
