<phrase> "The eighteen schools of the Śhrāvakas". After the Buddha passed away, his śhrāvaka disciples split into four basic groups. These four groups had their own factions, making a total of eighteen schools or groups that the śhrāvaka disciples split into following the Buddha's passing.
