སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་རང་བཞིན་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas kyi rang bzhin
<phrase> "Buddha-nature" another name of དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་ tathāgatagarbha, the inner nature of the mind of sentient beings that is equivalent to and allows the beings to become a buddha.
སངས་རྒྱས་གོ་ཆ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas go cha
<name> "Buddha Armour", translation of the Sanskrit "buddhavarma". This is the name of an Indian master who wrote a text called སེམས་དང་ཡེ་ཤེས་བརྟག་པའི་འགྲེལ་ "Commentary Examining Mind and Wisdom".
སངས་རྒྱས་སྙིང་པོ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas snying po
<phrase> "Buddha-core". Translation of the Sanskrit "buddhagarbha". One of several alternative names for the དེ་བཞིན་གཤེགས་པའི་སྙིང་པོ་ tathāgatagarbha. Note that སྙིང་པོ་ here really means the birthplace, the place where buddha comes from.
བསྐལ་པ་བཟང་པོའི་སངས་རྒྱས་སྟོང་
Transliteration: bskal pa bzang po'i sangs rgyas stong
<phrase> "The thousand buddhas of the good kalpa". A general phrase used to indicate the one thousand and two buddhas that Śhākyamuni Buddha predicted would appear in this particular བསྐལ་པ་བཟང་པོ་ good kalpa.
སངས་རྒྱས་པ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas pa
I. <verb> The past of འཚང་རྒྱ་བ་ meaning that one has become a buddha. "To have become a buddha"; to have finished the process of awakening; to have become awakened. Note that this is not the same as "to have become enlightened" which is referred to with བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐོབ་པ་.
II. <noun> The name given to a person who holds to the system of the Buddha, "a Buddhist".
དང་པོའི་སངས་རྒྱས་
Transliteration: dang po'i sangs rgyas
<phrase> "Origin's buddha" or "buddha of the origin". A term with the same basic meaning and usage as དང་པོའི་མགོན་པོ་ "origin's guardian" q.v. for explanation.
Some dictionaries give this as the "adibuddha" or "primordial buddha". However, that is mistaken. The Sanskrit term "adibuddha" has the Tibetan equivalent གདོད་མའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ and the term "primal buddha" correctly translates ཡེ་ནས་སངས…
སངས་རྒྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་དགོངས་པ་འདུས་པ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas thams cad dgongs pa 'dus pa
<noun> "The Gathered Intent of Every Buddha". Acc. [POD], the name of a tantra which is one of the four root tantras of ཨ་ནུ་ཡོ་ག་ Anuyoga.
གདོད་མའི་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོ་
Transliteration: gdod ma'i sangs rgyas kun tu bzang po
<phrase> "Primal buddha Samantabhadra". Translation of the Sanskrit "ādibuddha samantabhadra". Samantabhadra is the primal buddha in the old translation school, the Nyingma, and Vajradhara is the primal buddha in the new translation schools—Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug.
སངས་རྒྱས་གསང་བ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas gsang ba
<name> Translation of the Sanskrit "Buddhaguhya". The name of at least one āchārya in Indian Buddhist history. One of them wrote ཀུན་གཞི་དང་ཡེ་ཤེས་བརྟག་པའི་འགྲེལ་པ་ a commentary examining alaya and wisdom.
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཆེ་བའི་ཡོན་ཏན་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas kyi che ba'i yon tan
<phrase> "The superior qualities of buddhahood" meaning either the qualities of mind of a buddha which are superior to all other beings generally speaking or སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ཆོས་མ་འདྲེས་པ་བཅོ་བརྒྱད་ the qualities of mind of a buddha which are seen in the tenth level bodhisatvas but which, in the case of a buddha, are far superior q.v.
སངས་རྒྱས་རྡོ་རྗེ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas rdo rje
<noun> "Sangyay Dorje". The name of a brilliant scholar of the འབྲུག་པ་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་ who lived in the seventeenth century. He wrote many commentaries on various subjects. He was regarded as so brilliant the he was later given the title མཁས་དབང་ "Expert of experts".
བསེ་རུ་ལྟ་བུའི་རང་སངས་རྒྱས་
Transliteration: bse ru lta bu'i rang sangs rgyas
<noun> "Rhinoceros-like pratyekabuddha". Translation of the Sanskrit "khaḍga viṣhāṇa kalpaḥ pratyekabuddha". One of the རང་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་རིམ་པ་གཉིས་ two types of pratyekabuddha who are distinguished by their approach to practice q.v. This pratyekabuddha is one of the དགེ་འདུན་ཉི་ཤུ་ "twenty saṅghas" q.v.
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་མཛད་པ་བཅུ་གཉིས་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas kyi mdzad pa bcu gnyis
<phrase> "Twelve deeds of a buddha". Buddhas who appear in the world as a supreme nirmanakaya that turns the wheel of dharma are said to perform a total of twelve, major acts. See རྒྱལ་བའི་མཛད་པ་བཅུ་གཉིས་ q.v.
སངས་རྒྱས་ཐོད་པ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas thod pa
<noun> "Buddha-skull". Translation of the Sanskrit "buddhakapala". The name of a tantra cycle and the associated yidam belonging to the མ་རྒྱུད་ mother tantra section of the བླ་ན་མེད་པའི་རྒྱུད་ anuttaratantra division of the གསར་མ་ new-translation tantra system.
ཕ་དམ་པ་སངས་རྒྱས་
Transliteration: pha dam pa sangs rgyas
<noun> "Phadampa Sangye". The name of a great Indian master whose system of dharma was called ཞི་བྱེད་ Pacifier. One of his heart disciples was མ་ཅིག་ལབ་ཀྱི་སྒྲོན་མ་ Machig Labdron, q.v.
སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་
Transliteration: sangs rgyas kyi dgongs pa
<phrase> Usually translated as "intent of the buddha". However, note that དགོངས་པ་ is the [Hon] of སེམས་པ་ and really means "what the buddha had in mind / his particular thought about some matter". <name> "Sangyay Lama". The name of the first གཏེར་སྟོན་ treasure revealer to reveal a treasure in Tibet. He is also called འགྲོ་འདུལ་སངས་རྒྱས་བླ་མ་ Drodul Sangyay Lama q.v. Transliteration: sangs rgyas kyi mnyam pa nyid gsum
<phrase> "The three equalities of buddhas". [DGT] gives as: 1) ཚོགས་བསགས་པར་མཉམ་པ་ "they are equal in their accumulation of the accumulations"; 2) ཆོས་སྐུ་བརྙེས་པར་མཉམ་པ་ "they are equal in having obtained dharmakāya"; and 3) འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་སྤྱོད་པར་མཉམ་པ་ "they are equal in their conduct for the benefit of migrators".
