སྤུ་རེ་རེ་ནས་སྐྱེས་ཤིང་གཡས་སུ་འཁྱིལ་བ་
Transliteration: spu re re nas skyes shing g-yas su 'khyil ba
"Each hair is separate and coils to the right". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. An altern. version is སྤུ་རེ་རེ་ནས་གཡས་ཕྱོགས་སུ་འཁྱིལ་བ་ "each hair coils to the right" q.v.
ལྗགས་ཤིན་ཏུ་རིང་བ་
Transliteration: ljags shin tu ring ba
<noun> "A very long tongue". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "prabhūtajihva". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. Altern. formulations that appear are ལྗགས་ཤིན་དུ་ཏིང་ཞིང་སྲབ་པ་ "a very long and fine tongue" and ལྗགས་རིང་བ་ "long tongue".
སྤྱན་གྱི་རྫི་མ་བ་མཆོག་གི་རྫི་མ་ལྟ་བུའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: spyan gyi rdzi ma ba mchog gi rdzi ma lta bu'i mtshan bzang
<noun> "The excellent mark of eyelashes like the eyelashes of a fine heifer". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See སྤྱན་གྱི་རྫི་མ་བ་མཆོག་གི་རྫི་མ་ལྟ་བུ་ "eyelashes like the eyelashes of a fine heifer".
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་འཇམ་ཞིང་གཞོན་ཤ་ཆགས་པའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs 'jam zhing gzhon sha chags pa'i mtshan bzang
"The excellent mark of hands and feet being soft and smooth". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་འཇམ་ཞིང་གཞོན་ཤ་ཆགས་པ་.
སྤྱན་མཐོན་མཐིང་
Transliteration: spyan mthon mthing
<phrase> "Deep blue eyes". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "abhinīlanetra". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. This is often written in conjunction with the next mark of a buddha, that he has eyelashes like that of a heifer, e.g., in སྤྱན་མཐོན་མཐིང་ལ་བའི་རྫི་མ་ལྟ་བུ་ "eyelashes like those of a heifer on deep blue eyes".
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་སོར་མོ་དྲྭ་བས་འབྲེལ་བའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs kyi sor mo drva bas 'brel ba'i mtshan bzang
"The excellent mark of fingers and toes webbed". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་སོར་མོ་དྲྭ་བས་འབྲེལ་བ་.
ཚེམས་བཞི་བཅུ་མཉམ་པ་
Transliteration: tshems bzhi bcu mnyam pa
<noun> "A total of forty teeth". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "samacatvāriśhaddanta". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being q.v. There are various other expressions of this mark e.g., ཚེམས་བཞི་བཅུ་མངའ་བ་ and ཚེམས་བཞི་བཅུ་ཚང་བ་ but all meaning that a buddha has forty teeth altogether.
ཤིང་ཉྱགྲོདྷ་ལྟར་ཆུ་ཞེང་གབ་པའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: shing ny+yagrodha ltar chu zheng gab pa'i mtshan bzang
<phrase> "The excellent mark of (body) well-proportioned like the Nyagrodha tree". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See ཤིང་ཉྱགྲོདྷ་ལྟར་ཆུ་ཞེང་གབ་པ་.
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་ཤིན་ཏུ་གནས་པའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs kyi mthil shin tu gnas pa'i mtshan bzang
"The palms of his hands and the soles of his feet are very well set". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་ཤིན་ཏུ་གནས་པ་.
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་འཁོར་ལོའི་མཚན་དང་ལྡན་པ་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs kyi mthil 'khor lo'i mtshan dang ldan pa
"The palms of his hands and the soles of his feet are (each) marked with wheel". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "cakrāṅkitāpaṇipātala". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being.
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་འཁོར་ལོའི་མཚན་དང་ལྡན་པའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs kyi mthil 'khor lo'i mtshan dang ldan pa'i mtshan bzang
"The excellent mark of palms of his hands and the soles of his feet (each) marked with wheel". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་འཁོར་ལོའི་མཚན་དང་ལྡན་པ་.
རོ་མི་ཞིམ་པ་རོ་མཆོག་སྣང་བ་
Transliteration: ro mi zhim pa ro mchog snang ba
<phrase> "Bad tastes appearing as the finest tastes". The name of one of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. See རོ་མི་ཞིམ་པ་རོ་མཆོག་སྣང་བའི་མཚན་བཟང་ The excellent mark of bad tastes appearing as the finest tastes". An altern. to རོ་བྲོ་བའི་མཆོག་དང་ལྡན་པ་ q.v. "having the finest sense of taste".
སྐུའི་གནས་བདུན་མཐོ་བའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: sku'i gnas bdun mtho ba'i mtshan bzang
"The excellent mark of seven upper places on the body". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. This does not mean that there are "seven important" or "main features" or "seven protuberances" on a buddha's body as some have given but refers to seven upper surfaces on a buddha's body. ཞབས་ཀྱི་རྟིང་པ་ཡངས་པ་
Transliteration: zhabs kyi rting pa yangs pa
<phrase> "Broad heels". One of སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ the thirty-two marks of a great being. This has been given as meaning "Broad heels". It does not mean the heels are broad per se but means the fleshy bulb on the heel is not hard, solid, and contained into a lump like a normal human's but is supple and gently spreading.
རྟིང་པ་ཡངས་པ་
Transliteration: rting pa yangs pa
<phrase> "Broad-heeled". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "āyatapārṣhiṇa". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. This does not merely mean "broad" but means the fleshy bulb on a buddha's heel is not hard, solid, and contained into a lump like a normal humans but supple and gently spreading.
རོ་མི་ཞིམ་པ་རོ་མཆོག་སྣང་བའི་མཚན་བཟང་
Transliteration: ro mi zhim pa ro mchog snang ba'i mtshan bzang
<phrase> "The excellent mark of bad tastes appearing as the finest tastes". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. An altern. rendering for རོ་བྲོ་བའི་མཆོག་དང་ལྡན་པའི་མཚན་བཟང་ q.v. "the excellent mark of having the finest sense of taste".
ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་འཇམ་ཞིང་གཞོན་ཤ་ཆགས་པ་
Transliteration: phyag dang zhabs kyi mthil 'jam zhing gzhon sha chags pa
"The palms of his hands and the soles of his feet are soft and smooth". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. An altern. rendering is ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་འཇམ་ཞིང་གཞོན་ཤ་ཆགས་པ་ "Hands and feet are soft and smooth".
རོ་བྲོ་བའི་མཆོག་དང་ལྡན་པ་
Transliteration: ro bro ba'i mchog dang ldan pa
<phrase> "Having the finest sense of taste". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "rasarasāgra". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. Sometimes given as རོ་མི་ཞིམ་པ་རོ་མཆོག་སྣང་བ་ "bad tastes appearing as the finest tastes".
ཞལ་མཛོད་སྤུས་བརྒྱན་པ་
Transliteration: zhal mdzod spus brgyan pa
<phrase> "Face is adorned with an ūrṇā". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "ūrṇālaṃkṛtamukha". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. The buddha has a single hair between his eyebrows that is long but coiled up. It is called the མཛོད་སྤུ་ "ūrṇā" and is a sign of his མངོན་ཤེས་ higher cognitions.
འདོམས་ཀྱི་སྦ་བ་སྦུབས་སུ་ནུབ་པ་
Transliteration: 'doms kyi sba ba sbubs su nub pa
<phrase> "Private organ is hidden in a sheath". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "koṣhagatvastiguhya". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. The Tibetan lit. means "retracted out of view" which is the meaning of the Sanskrit guhya "secret".
དཔེ་བྱད་
Transliteration: dpe byad
<noun> Translation of the Sanskrit "anuvyañjani". The term that refers to སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་དཔེ་བྱད་བཟང་པོ་བརྒྱད་ཅུ་ the eighty markings on the body of a buddha. The term means "illustrative sign". "Hands and feet are soft and smooth". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "mṛdutarūṇahastapādatā". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. An altern. rendering is ཕྱག་དང་ཞབས་ཀྱི་མཐིལ་འཇམ་ཞིང་གཞོན་ཤ་ཆགས་པ་ "the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet are soft and smooth".

"The fingers and toes are webbed". Translation of the Sanskrit [NDS] "jālāvanaddhāṅgulipāṇipādatā". One of the སྐྱེས་བུ་ཆེན་པོའི་མཚན་བཟང་པོ་སུམ་ཅུ་སོ་གཉིས་ thirty-two marks of a great being. This means that there is a membrane of skin joining between and connecting each of a buddha's fingers and toes.
