གཞི་རིམ་
Transliteration: gzhi rim
<phrase> The most basic level of anything. E.g., in terms of education, the most basic level of education. In terms of the grades of schooling, the primary school grades in which one receives the basics of reading and writing.
གཞི་ལུས་
Transliteration: gzhi lus
<noun> "Basis body". A secret mantra term used in the stages of visualization of the བསྐྱེད་རིམ་ development of the maṇḍala of a deity. The name given to the visualized body of the deity in the first stage of the practice prior to creating the protection apparatus. གཞི་རྩ་
Transliteration: gzhi rtsa
<phrase> Abbrev. of གཞི་དང་རྩ་ "ground and root". Note that each of the two terms has its own meaning, so it is not correct to conflate the two terms into one by saying e.g., "ground". Note also that རྩ་ is not an adjective modifying གཞི་; translations such as "root basis", "root foundation", "root source" are incorrect.
གཤམ་རིམ་
Transliteration: gsham rim

རྨང་གཞི་
Transliteration: rmang gzhi
<noun> A word that combines the meaning of both རྨང་ and གཞི་. It means something that forms a basis, acts a foundation, or a base for something else. In some cases it could be translated well with "underlying basis", etc.
རིལ་གཞི་བདག་
Transliteration: ril gzhi bdag
<noun> The name of a class of beings living in the ཉི་ཚེ་བའི་དམྱལ་བ་ ephemeral hells. These beings have been born into rocks and stones in the human realm which they see as a home for themselves.
རིམ་གྱིས་
Transliteration: rim gyis
<adv> Having the basic meaning "by stages" which can be equivalent to various English terms, depending on the context: "gradually", "by degrees", "step by step", "in steps/stages", "progressively", "sequentially", "serially", "by turns".
The opp. of རིམ་གྱིས་ is ཅིག་ཅར་ meaning something that happens "at once" without any progression through stages.

རྩོད་གཞི་
Transliteration: rtsod gzhi
<noun> 1) "Basis of a dispute / argument / disagreement", "the grounds of an argument etc.". The thing which has become a cause for any kind of dispute between parties. 2) In debate, "the basis for debate" which is the opening statement put forward by the རྩོད་པ་པོ་ person who initiates a debate or argument. 3) In the Vinaya, see རྩོད་པའི་གཞི་ "ground of dispute".
རིམ་གཉིས་
Transliteration: rim gnyis
<phrase> 1) In general, "two stages". 2) Specifically, in secret mantra literature, "the two stages" of བསྐྱེད་རིམ་ development stage and རྫོགས་རིམ་ completion stage.
གཞི་རྟེན་
Transliteration: gzhi rten
<noun> 1) Combining the meanings of both གཞི་ "basis" and རྟེན་ "that which supports" and meaning any basis / foundation that specifically functions as a support for, or location for the presence of, other things. E.g., སྡོམ་པ་ཀུན་གྱི་གཞི་རྟེན་ནི་སྐྱབས་སུ་འགྲོ་བ་ "the basis for all vows, taking refuge". 2) Abbrev. meaning "གཞི་ and རྟེན་".
རྟེན་གཞི་
Transliteration: rten gzhi
<noun> "Supporting base"; the same meaning as རྟེན་ "support" but adding the idea of a base or basis. It has to be translated on context, because in some cases a simple, short word such as either support or base or basis will be suffiaient.
