སྨིན་མཚམས་
Transliteration: smin mtshams
<noun> Abbrev. of སྨིན་མའི་མཚམས་ meaning the point between the eyebrows. 1) This point is one of རྣམ་ཤེས་འཕོ་བའི་བུ་ག་དགུ་ the nine orifices of the human body via which the consciousness exits at the time of death. 2) It is also an important point in secret-mantra where it is used in yogic practices, especially in practices involving the movement of the ཐིག་ལེ་ bindus in relation to training the རྩ་རླུང་ winds and currents. 3) The term has a very special meaning in the ཐོད་རྒལ་ Direct Crossing practice of Great Completion. It refers to an early stage of the practice in which the appearances seen in the practice seem to be part of the practitioner still, roughly speaking. The details of this are very important to the correct understanding of the practice. However, the details are very secret and can only be obtained by oral instruction from a qualified teacher, therefore are not explained here.
