གདེང་འཆའ་བ་
Transliteration: gdeng 'cha' ba

སེམས་སྐྱོ་བ་
Transliteration: sems skyo ba
<adj> 1) For the mind to be "sad", "gloomy", "depressed", "dis-spirited", "down". 2) Used in Buddhist texts to indicate mind that is "disenchanted with / weary of" འཁོར་བ་ cyclic existence.
མཆི་མ་ཤོར་བ་
Transliteration: mchi ma shor ba
I. <verb> v.i. see ཤོར་བ་ for tense forms. "To start crying" in whatever way of crying. Hence it includes "to burst into tears".
II. <gerundial>phrase> per the verb phrase.
བ་ལང་བདག་པོ་
Transliteration: ba lang bdag po
<phrase> "Owner of cattle", translation from the Sanskrit "gavāmpati". 1) A general phrase meaning someone who owns cattle. 2) A person's name. This can be shortened to བ་ལང་བདག་ q.v. for an example.
ཐེ་ཚོམ་ཟ་བ་
Transliteration: the tshom za ba
<verb> v.t. see ཟ་བ་ for tense forms. 1) "To have doubt" about something, "to be in doubt", "to entertain doubt(s)". 2) It is also used to give the more specific English senses "to be perplexed" about something and "to be in a dilemma".
འགྲུལ་བ་
Transliteration: 'grul ba
<verb> v.i. འགྲུལ་བ་/ འགྲུལ་བ་/ འགྲུལ་བ་//. Meaning "to pass" through or along a road of any kind. Hence also "to travel through / along" "to journey", "to have passage", "to make one's way through". སྣང་བ་མཐའ་ཡས་
Transliteration: snang ba mtha' yas
<noun> "Boundless Light". Translation of the Sanskrit "amitābha". The name of the Conqueror at the head of the padma family; one of the རྒྱལ་བ་རིགས་ལྔ་ "five conqueror families" q.v.
ཞེ་ལ་འབྱོར་བ་
Transliteration: zhe la 'byor ba
<verb> Acc. [ULS] this term was revised during the སྐད་གསར་བཅད་ language revisions and meant, when written in new signs, སེམས་ལ་འགྲོ་བ་ "to occur to the mind".
ཉོན་མོངས་མང་བ་
Transliteration: nyon mongs mang ba
<phrase> "Greater affliction". One of ལྟུང་བ་འབྱུང་བའི་སྒོ་བཞི་ the four doorways through which vows are broken. This refers to having a lot of affliction in mind and because of that influence, vows are broken.
ལོག་པའི་འཚོ་བ་
Transliteration: log pa'i 'tsho ba
I. <phrase> v.t. see འཚོ་བ་ for tense forms. "To engage in a wrong / perverted livelihood".
II. <gerundial>phrase> per the verb. The true noun form is written ལོག་འཚོ་ q.v.
སྣོད་དུ་རུང་བ་
Transliteration: snod du rung ba
1) <phrase> In general, "suitable to be a vessel". 2) <noun> Specifically, "Suitable vessel" in the sense of a person who has the qualities needed to be a suitable vessel for some teaching or advice. The opp. is སྣོད་དུ་མི་རུང་བ་ q.v.
གཙེར་བ་
Transliteration: gtser ba
<verb> v.t. གཙེར་བ་/ གཙེར་བ་/ གཙེར་བ་/ གཙེར་/. Lit. "to hurt the ears", "to be hard on the ears" because of loud or unpleasant noise. E.g., [TC] དོན་མེད་ཀུ་ཅོ་མང་པོས་རྣ་བ་གཙེར་བར་བྱེད་པ། "the meaningless and incessant noise made his ears hurt"; མི་ཚོགས་མང་དུ་འདུས་ནས་ཅ་ཅོའི་སྒྲས་གཙེར་བ། "the chattering sound coming from the many groups of people there hurt the ears".
ཀུན་གྱིས་བཀུར་བ་
Transliteration: kun gyis bkur ba
1) <adj> "Respected / revered / honoured by all"; an epithet for someone who is highly regarded by everyone. 2) <noun> Altern. for མང་པོས་བཀུར་བ་ "Greatly Revered" q.v.
རྣམ་པར་འགྲེལ་བ་
Transliteration: rnam par 'grel ba
<verb> see v.t. འགྲེལ་བ་ "Complete commentary", "full commentary", "thorough commentary". Translation of the Sanskrit "varṭīka". There are several different types of commentary. A varṭīka is a commentary which covers a subject comprehensively and in depth.
གསོང་པོར་སྨྲ་བ་
Transliteration: gsong por smra ba
<verb> Acc. [LGK] this term was revised during the སྐད་གསར་བཅད་ language revisions and meant, when written in new signs དྲང་པོར་སྨྲ་བ་ "to speak honestly, sincerely".
གསལ་བ་དང་སྟོང་པ་
Transliteration: gsal ba dang stong pa
<phrase> "Illumination and emptiness". The essence of mind has two qualities or parts: it has a knowing aspect which is called གསལ་བ་ "illumination" and an empty aspect which is called སྟོང་པ་ "emptiness". See also under གསལ་སྟོང་ for an important note.
ཕྱོགས་སུ་ལྷུང་བ་
Transliteration: phyogs su lhung ba
I. <verb> v.i. see ལྷུང་བ་ for tense forms. "To fall onto (one) side", "to become biased", "to fall into partiality".
II. <phrase> true noun form is ཕྱོགས་ལྷུང་ q.v.
ཤེས་པ་ཡུལ་ལ་འཆར་བ་
Transliteration: shes pa yul la 'char ba
<verb> see v.i. འཆར་བ་ for tense forms. This is the standard construction used for "an awareness shining forth in relation to an object".
སྤྲོས་པ་ཉེ་བར་ཞི་བ་
Transliteration: spros pa nye bar zhi ba
I. <verb> v.i. see ཞི་བ་ for tense forms. "To closely pacify the elaborations".
II. <gerundial>phrase> cognate to the verb form; "the close pacification of the elaborations".
རིགས་མི་འཆད་པར་བགྱི་བ་
Transliteration: rigs mi 'chad par bgyi ba
<phrase> "To act so as the family is not cut". E.g., a bodhisatva is one who "དཀོན་མཆོག་གསུམ་གྱི་རིགས་མི་འཆད་པར་བགྱི་བ་" "acts so that the family of the Three Jewels is not cut".
